iPod originated from the digital hub strategy of Apple, as the company ventured into software development and the market for digital devices rose. iPod was launched to replace the big and clunky or useless and small digital music players. iPod was developed in less than an year and was launched on October 23, 2001. It had a 5 GB hard drive which could store 1000 songs. Over the years, additional features have been added to the iPod, as it gained more market and popularity. Most prominent of these new features is iTunes, through which, a person having an iPod can download songs for a nominal cost.
For downloading a new song from Apple iTunes Music Store, the user must first click on the Music Store icon on the left. You can then select the genre by clicking on Up-Down Arrow provided next to Choose Genre. Then the user can select from Blues, Classical, Pop, Rock, Jazz or any other. Songs from the selected genre will take few moments to appear. More songs can be viewed by left or right arrow buttons. Then, you can click on Buy Song button under the song you want to purchase and download. You can now view the song in Purchased music folder. Then move the song to the iPod by clicking and dragging the song. You can directly search for a song or artist, click on the Search box provided next to the Magnifying Glass on top right corner of the iTunes window. Type in the name of the artist or the song and press enter on the keyboard. Song matching the search will be displayed after some time.

For playing the music from iPod on the PC, insert the iPod in its cradle, then double click on iTunes icon which is on the desktop. Then click on the iPod icon available on the left and then double click on the desired song. For adding a song from a folder on the PC, select the song on the PC, then drag it iPod icon available on left from the right hand window. For renaming a song, double click on the song title with slight pause between the two clicks. Then you can rename the song and press enter.
For listening to radio stations using iTunes, click on the radio icon provided on the left. Then select the genre of you choice. You can listen to the radio as long as it is on air. For using the iPod as a hard disk or flash drive, connect it to the cradle. Then in My Computer, a new drive will appear. You can access the files in this new drive, as you can access in any other drive. iPod has many features. An acute knowledge of iPod can make it worth much more than what you paid for it.
